Italian, Italian and more Italian

Hello friends and family! I just wanted to give everyone a little update. I have been pretty much consumed with classes, because of course Occidental requires us to take more classes than anyone else of the program, oh well...I guess it is a good experience. On monday I just had lectures for some of my course, although I missed Italian in the morning because I was deathly ill. Yesterday I went on a walking tour for my art history class. It was pretty intense. We visited the Colosseum for probably about a quick 45 min, then to the Pantheon, and then the Ara Pacis. All of the stops were really interesting, but we really didn't stay there for a long time. The Ara Pacis was really cool, it was the Alter of Augustan Peace, and it was in this modern museum designed by the same man who created the Ghetty Museum in LA. And the alter was in amazing condition for how old it was. I had my first on site drawing class, which was alright, it just doesn't seem to be that serious of class. But, I am having a good time. Miss you love you!

NEW PICS

I have a new album, but check out the old link too, because I put a few new pics up. Also, some of these pictures may be P13 because they do include alcohol, but I thought they were a good depiction of my group of friends. Also, this was our first night out on the town, mind you people have been partying non stop since they have been here, which seems neither affordable or fun, but I guess whatever floats their boat.

.Today we went to the Trestevere, which is a little section of the city located across the Tiber River. They have cute little shops, and we got cappuccino (which are amazing btw) and gelato. Of course I did not get gelato, because as most of you know I have to be in a very strange mood to want frozen sweets. But, I did get this amazing thing, I dont know what it is, but it was a delight! It was like a flat, roundish cone, yet sweeter and softer that tasted like cinnamon and there was a caramel-like substance in it. It was basically amazing! So I have just been starting my classes, and trying to find my way through Rome. It has certainly been quite an experience so far! Thank goodness it is the weekend!

My Field Trip

My classes are far from the typical classes. I am taking Italian, Intro to the Art of Rome, The City of Rome, Italian Food and Culture, and Drawing of Monuments. So far I have been to most of my classes. For my art history class and my city of Rome class we have a one hour lecture a week, and a four hour field trip. Today, I went to the Roman Forum for my art history class, which was incredible. It is amazing to actually be able to go to the places that we are studying.

The food so far has been delicious to the taste, yet it is taking some time to adjust to. It is actually funny because we get two meals included with the school, breakfast, which consists of a hard roll, that is hallow inside. And a weird lunch with pork and ham and veal. For dinner we have to find places on our own, which is challenging because we dont really know where to go that is good and not so pricey. But, I guess it is all about the experience! Hopefully the group can continuously eat dinner! Email me or get skype! Or ask my mom for my address and send me cool things.....

update time

Hello! I am writing from my little room in a convent, which has a cross above my bed, and I am forbidden to take it down. My legs are quite tired, because I have basically traveled all around Rome. I have NO CLUE how to get back to where we went, but I am pretty sure I have walked far and wide throughout Rome. The city is absolutely AMAZING! Everywhere we go there is so much going on, and it is hard to pass an ancient ruin and beautiful church without admiring it, and let me tell you, our guide walk a mile a minute, so I am clearly getting my work out. I can't wait to wander around the city and try and get to different places. The people seem pretty nice so far, I have made a couple of good friends so far, but I think it would be really interesting to meet some Italian people. They definitely don't speak English as well as I expected, but I am learning a lot about their customs and hopefully I will learnt o speak a little. Tomorrow I am starting my classes. I am taking Italian, Intro to the Art of Rome, Food and Culture, The City of Rome, and Drawing from Masterpieces. I am really excited!

Also, I put the link to my picture album if you want to take a look! I can't help taking pictures of everything. I guess I got it from my dad....Love you all!

Bonjourno!

Shalom! Ciao! Aloha! Hola! I am in Italy! And I am in a daze. Everything seems so surreal! I can't believe I am here. We had a pretty packed schedule for just arriving on a plane, which was fun in itself...I have never been so tired in my life! I am sleeping in a hotel tonight, because there was a nun convention in the convent that I will be staying at. So, tomorrow I will get to see my real room. We have already walked around a bit, ate pasta, saw some monuments and such...so I am well on my way. The girls seem pretty nice, and excited to get to know everyone. I am more nervous about assimilating into Italian Culture and every day customs. Well I AM SOOOOOO TIRED i want to pass out!

The little old Italian Man

Isn't this little old man so cute? I took this picture when I went to Italy during the summer of 2005, and I think it inspired me to go back to Italy and study....ya ok...I know I am going to be really bad at this blog thing, but I thought I would use this in order to update my friends and family about my trip. I will be embarking upon this new CRAZY, EXCITING adventure on January 17th. Wish me luck!
